Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
A clean machine makes better coffee, lasts longer, and costs less to service. Follow this schedule and your machine will perform at its best every day.
Important: Always refer to your specific machine's manual for model-specific cleaning instructions. This guide covers general best practice for bean-to-cup and traditional espresso machines.
Daily Tasks
- Empty and rinse the drip tray and grounds container
- Wipe down the steam wand immediately after each use with a damp cloth
- Run a rinse cycle through the group head (most bean-to-cup machines do this automatically)
- Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth — pay attention to the bean hopper lid and cup warming tray
- Check the water tank level and refill if needed
- Check the bean hopper and top up if low
Weekly Tasks
- Run a full cleaning cycle using the machine's built-in programme (most bean-to-cup machines have one)
- Remove and wash the drip tray, grounds container, and water tank with warm soapy water — rinse thoroughly
- Clean the steam wand by soaking the tip in hot water and wiping with a damp clothBackflush the group head on traditional espresso machines using a blind filter and cleaning tablet
- Wipe down the grinder chute if accessible
- Check the water filter indicator and replace if due
Monthly Tasks
- Descale the machine using the manufacturer's recommended descaler — follow the programme exactly
- Deep clean the milk system: run a milk cleaning solution through the frothing circuit
- Remove and soak the brew group (if removable) in warm water for 30 minutes
- Clean the bean hopper with a dry cloth — do not use water or detergent
- Inspect all seals and gaskets for wear — replace if cracked or leaking
- Log the service in your maintenance record
